Introduction

Miodrag Lazic: War surgeon diary, Knin 1991 - Srpsko Sarajevo 1995. Diary of horror – because it is brought by war surgeon from the first line of front. Front of the war, where out of number of young men, women, children, old people in the most horrible suffers die or become cripple (physically, spiritually or both in the most cases). On the other hand M. Lazic testimonial of superhuman fight of sanitarian workers in war hospital “Zica” in Blazuj for life of injured is monumental – introduction to work of sanitarian workers. They stay in shadow in every war. We know very little, or nothing about hell these heroes go through.

It has been written, and it is going to be written for a long time about dementia of civilian-religious war in ex-Bosnia and Herzegovina. Many people are going to start talking, discovering from various angles huge disaster for people in this area. But, it is hard that any testimonial is going to be more direct and shocking than M. Lazic's. His diary i diary of horror, but in the same time it is monument to Man. M. Lazic's love to Serbian people (that are brought to the edge in this time of West dishonor) is amazing and infinite. In the root of that love is Lazic's knowledge about unique manliness and heroism of people that he belongs. War surgeon diary by M. Lazic is written with great heart of man – life fighter. It was written, the most often, immediately after the events it talked, in conditions that are hardly imaginable. That is why diary has some rough thoughts, repeated and unbalanced words, sometimes too strong words, carried by explosive emotion. Everything is as it was written at first, with no additional interventions – which makes this story more expressive. Because all of that, there is no doubt that Lazic's diary is going to be very popular book. As time passes from the described events, it is going to be more and more significant document about one tragic time, time of evil, time of dishonor, and time of indestructible man. In the end, but above all: War surgeon diary by Dr. Miodrag Lazic is strong protest against war dementia in general.

In 1994 he became primarius. His holiness, patriarch Pavle gartered him for his work in Republic of Srpska, with Saint Sava medal. Besides that he got many other acknowledgments. In February, 1996 he had leaved Srpsko Sarajevo, and went back to home, in Nis. As he said: “I am leaving with sorrow and spleen. I am proud because I fought and have been in good and in evil with heroic people of Srpsko Sarajevo. I am sad because of his tragedy...”. Dr. Lazic's son Pedja, was ten then, and his daughter Nina was eight. Dr. Miodrag Lazic is working on Surgical Clinic in Nis now. He is the head or Thoraxial Surgery with Traumathology.
